Keeping your feet on the ground until your data is in the cloud

Gartner recently released a report where they predicted that only 3% of BI expenditure will be accounted for by Cloud BI offerings. This is a strong reminder that in BI, the hype does not always match the reality.

At IPL, I’ve seen that organisations like the appeal of the cloud in so far as it reduces their costs of hosting a solution- they have not yet been convinced, however, to store all the confidential data off-premise.

This will come in time: as cloud platforms mature, I expect that more data will end up in the cloud. When that becomes true, BI in the cloud will be the obvious choice. But it looks like it might take longer than many people expected.
